The Camden Eagle takes flight following community vote

The Camden Eagle takes flight following community vote

A new Camden High School mascot will soon be seen on campus: The Camden Eagle.

In May, Camden students, staff, alumni and other community members voted to select a design meant to reflect the modern Patriot. The winning design, the eagle, will appear on campus signage and spirit wear, among other places.

“The newly chosen design is more than just a symbol,” said Camden Principal Liza Anderson Schmid. “It’s a visual representation of our school’s identity and history. The eagle stands as a powerful representation of our community’s strength, while the star represents our community’s unity and the forward momentum. If you look closely, you’ll see the Minneapolis skyline, the Lowry Avenue Bridge and Mississippi River, tying our school pride directly to the geography that surrounds us. ”

After a student-led movement to change the name of Patrick Henry High School started in 2018, the mascot was the final piece that needed updating. The Camden community worked with the Minneapolis design agency Free Agent Creative to gather input about what it means to be a Camden Patriot, and how that might look in mascot form.
